Felix: An Unexpected Surprise

The last time I was in Charleston, a group of friends planned a trip to Felix. At that point, I had never heard of Felix, and it’s a little further up on King Street than I normally venture. Apparently, I must have been missing out on all of my trips because there were so many good places to eat in that area.

I nearly passed on going to Felix – I wasn’t entirely sure about going to a French place with some of the other options in the area with food I was more accustomed too, but this is one of those times when doing what everyone else was doing ended well.

It was later at night when I was there for dinner, probably 8:00, and the crowd was lively and the place packed. I’m fairly sure we would have waited all night had the group not had reservations ahead of time, so I suggest making one. It is a very minimalist type space in its decor, but it was very clean and well done.

I don’t speak any French, in fact at one point in my life I would have told you that “yes” in French was spelled “we.” As embarrassing as that is, I at least can spell “yes” in French now. The menu items are partly in French, so I went looking for something that seemed familiar. I settled on the Petit Croque Monsieur. The description said it was four ham sandwiches. Unsure what to expect, I have to say, I really was impressed. While they were smaller bites, they were incredible. They had gruyère cheese and were truly excellent.

I will certainly be back, hopefully for brunch so I can try the Banana~Nutella Pain Perdu. Check out their menu, you will not regret this stop on the food tour!
